Ophthalmology
Department of Ophthalmology, Aruna Asaf Ali Govt. Hospital is housed in Room No.C6,C7,C8, 3rd floor, New OPD block. It runs an OPD of about 100 – 150 patients daily from Monday to Saturday. Routine major and minor surgical procedures are conducted in the common Major OT on the first floor on Mondays and the Indoor patients ward is on the 3rd floor of the main building.

- Cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation (Including Small Incision Cataract Surgery and extracapsular cataract extraction)

- Dacryocystorhinostomy and Dacryocystectomy
- Minor surgeries like Pterygium excision, lid surgeries, entropion correction, chalazion surgery.
Backup facilities
The above diagnostic and curative facilities are backed by the Anaesthesia, Pathology, Radiology, Medicine and Paediatrics departments of the hospital.
National and State level Schemes
The Eye Department takes active part in National Health Schemes like National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) and State level Health Schemes like Motiabind Mukti Abhyan (MMA).

Q1. Is Intraocular lens being done in all cases of cataract surgery?
Ans. Yes, in majority of the cases unless it is contraindicated.
Q2. Are IOLs being supplied to the patients free of cost or do they have to purchase them?
Ans. IOL’s are being supplied to the hospital by NPCB or MMA or procured through tender of Guru Nanak Eye Centre so they are provided to the patient free of cost.
